Thanks for the explanation of all of this. I am trying to do a 2008 CCR cluster to get ready for an exchange 2007 installation. Is there an article written that shows the steps to setup MNS? When I go to the quorum config sceen and choose node majority, it was already defaulted to that, and says it doesn't see any disks even though both nodes have a d:\ of 500 gigs. Am I doing something wrong?

Any thoughts on >2node SCR? Should we try to keep a 1:1 A:P ratio? I can have as much a 7:1 . Is the one passive able to act as a failover for all the actives? Even though they contain different data stores?

Hiya, the main difference between the Clustering model used by Exchange 2003 Active / Passive is that each node needed to be in the same data centre (due to the shared storage aspect) - you could replicate your cluster to another Data Centre, however this would need to be accomplished using third party software and additional hardware.

Exchange 2007 CCR clustering operates on the principle that each node has its own storage, and the log files are replicated between the master and secondary node via a wan link - where they are replayed into the secondary nodes database.

The cluster itself in CCR is configured as a MNS where, again a copy of the Quorum database is stored on each node and updated via the WAN.

Cheers

Hi,
Very good representation.
I'm a little confused though, could you explain what the differences is between having a normal say Exchange 2003 Cluster (2 Node) and then having the added feature of CCR?

Exchange Cluster can be already split into two seperate data centres?

Confused here.

Great article...do you know if the remote SCR node can have all Exchange roles installed (CAS, and HUB) on the server, or does SCR limit that remote server to a Mailbox role only like other cluster topologies?

Ideally, I would like to require only on server for exchange redundancy at the DR remote site. At the primary site, we have a SCC cluster, and additional servers as the CAS/HUB role.

Great article for an excellent overview of the High Availabillity for Exchange 2007 Organizations. I especially love the diagrams. It makes it really easy to grasp the concepts.

Super as always Andy. Maaan you´re good. :-)

Thanks Andy,
Very good summary covering the different availability options in Exchange 2007. Will definitely come back to see your Exch 2003 to 2007 scenario.
