You also might need to be aware of the following Microsoft support stance on your configuration;

•Microsoft does not support combining Exchange clustering solutions (namely, cluster continuous replication (CCR) and single copy clusters (SCC)) with hypervisor-based availability or migration solutions (for example, Hyper-V’s quick migration). Both CCR and SCC are supported in hardware virtualization environments provided that the virtualization environment does not employ clustered virtualization servers.

So whereas you might not be using such solutions (e.g. CCR) in your setup - you might wish to check that the solution that you have come to, would actually be a supported configuration should a call to MS be required.

In fairness Jack that was not the point of the article.
The point was to show people how to configure CCR clustering VMWARE server was just the medium that I had available to me - and indeed as a free download most people (or Hyper-V) - the article was written at a point where CCR was a pretty new concept.
Can you explain your scenario in better detail? - I am curious to see how you have configured your setup using DRS and V-Motion whilst also using SAN replication to eliminate CCR.
I would also appreciate clarification on what you assume to be "worthless" - there are perhaps many whom would disagree with you.
Also - remember not everyone has these features available to them.

Again one further question - you say "simply adopt" - I would contest that the solution that you have; at least on the face of things does not seem "simple" as you have described HA, DRS, and V-Motion combined with SAN replication as a simple solution when compared to just CCR configuration under Exchange 2007 - I would contest that this is not a simple to setup and manage configuration as you have to configure and manage it via the VMWARE Infrastructure client, plus then via the SAN management interface the actual SAN configuration.

Having setup both VMWARE ESX 3.5.x and many SAN technologies (ranging from EMC, IBM, HP and NetAPP) - how can this be more straight forward (even if under VMWARE server - which I would not recommended for Production use on DB Servers) than either the Exchange Management Shell or Console????

Just wonder why you took CCR in the VMWare.

As matter of fatc, you can just simply adopt non-cluster (log shipping/log rereply) exchange 2007 systems resided on VMWare (w/v-motion, v-snap and DRS) and SAN (w/network replication).

Do not need duble-work on to the same solution, just wates time. worthless.

Virtualisation of Exchange 2007 Cluster Continous Replication unsing VMWARe on a test lab has really gone a long way to simply this before going on to the production environment............
